The times sign is written as a cross of two lines:

The times sign indicates multiplication operation of 2 numbers or expressions.

For example:

3 × 4

means 3 times 4, which is the multiplication of 3 and 4, which is equal to 12.

Asterisk sign:

For example:

3 * 4

The asterisk sign is located on the computer keyboard above the 8 digit. In order to write an asterisk press shift+8.
